The proposed book aims to explain the basic principles, concepts and regulations behind radiation protection and their application in the field of radiation oncology practice. This book will be useful to all those students, teachers and practicing professionals involved in the field of radiation oncology namely a) the radiation oncology physicists b) therapy technologists c) radiation oncologists d) oncology nurses and e) regulators undergoing IAEA training in regulations. The main target audience for the book are the medical physics students doing undergraduate or graduate program in radiation oncology physics and the teachers who teach the subject in the academic institutions.
There is no book available that comprehensively covers radiation protection in radiation oncology. This will be the first book of its kind devoted exclusively to radiation protection in oncology area.
The information about radiation safety is scattered around in literature and hence it is difficult for teachers to collect all the information on the subject. This book will help solve this problem.
Radiation oncology physicists are specialists in radiation oncology physics and not in radiation protection. A book of this nature is what they would be looking out for to teach the subject and to prescribe to students
National regulations are not well developed in many of the developing countries and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is involved in regular training of regulators from these member countries. This book will help the regulator trainees in understanding the subject.
