About the Author

Sheila Sanning Shea, MSN, RN, ANP, CEN,

is an emergency nurse practitioner (ENP) with over 30 years of clinical experience. She works in the Department of Emergency Medicine at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California. Ms. Shea established an emergency clinical fellowship for nurse practitioners and physician assistants that includes both didactic and clinical experiences. Ms. Shea is widely published and is an author and reviewer for the Advanced Emergency Nursing Journal , and was a contributing author to the Emergency Nurses Core Curriculum and Certified Emergency Nurse Review

. Ms. Shea has taught NPs locally and nationally on a variety of emergent and urgent care topics.

Karen “Sue” Hoyt, PhD, RN, FNP-BC, CEN, FAEN, FAANP, FAAN,is an emergency nurse practitioner (ENP) and works at St. Mary Medical Center in Long Beach, California. She is currently a clinical professor for the NP/DNP Programs at the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science at the University of San Diego.
