The 5th Edition of the Textbook of Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists, and Leprologists (IADVL) refers largely to the diseases prevailing in India. Around 290 authors who have contributed in this edition are mainly from within the country and have profound clinical exposure, as majority of them are from either teaching institutes or astute practicing dermatologists. Medical science and research are moving at a very fast pace and Dermatology is no exception. It’s always a diffcult task to upgrade and revamp the whole book as new knowledge accumulates. In order to be on par with the recent trends, lot many new chapters have been included. The chapters cover the topics extensively and exhaustively. However, the format of the chapters, keeps the reader glued to the text. Newly added colorful photographs, tables, flow charts, and lay out of the chapters and their color schemes makes the book attractive and readable.

The whole book has been designed and conceptualized keeping in mind the young generation of Postgraduates who seek latest information about a particular topic and also it is made revision-friendly during their preparation for exams. The text also highlights lot of practical tips useful for dermatology practitioners.

Dermoscopy is the newer subject which made us to re-look into each chapter and disease to update dermoscopic changes to every condition. Also, tremendous advances in the existing knowledge on hair and nail diseases necessitated us to dedicate a separate section for hair and nail disorders. Also, knowledge on practice management is pivotal for youngsters, hence we have introduced a section on the same in this edition. Newer topics like pharmacogenomics and sclerotherapy in dermatology has been added. References have been updated and few of them have been revised. Apart from above, every chapter has been thoroughly updated with addition of new images and illustrations as per the suggestions by the authors and readers.
