The second edition of this multi-authored, popular textbook “Tuberculosis” has been thoroughly updated and rewritten to present a comprehensive account of TB. It has contributions from experts from several parts of the world with a vast experience in this disease. Beginning with insights into the history and epidemiology of tuberculosis, the book deals extensively with the current understanding of the immunology, and immunopathogenetic mechanisms of this disease. The chapters on biology of Mycobacterium, Nontuberculous mycobacteria, susceptibility factors of tuberculosis with special emphasis on HLA and molecular mechanisms underlying the clinical manifestation of TB provide an excellent account of these topics. The clinical presentation, clinical and laboratory diagnosis, the treatment of TB of various organ systems, prevention and control of TB are exhaustively covered. Special emphasis has been laid on the rationale and importance of DOTS and DOTS-Plus; global experiences and expansion of DOTS.
