Dermatoscopy: Pattern analysis of pigmented and non-pigmented lesions, 2ed

Dermatoscopy has undoubtedly advanced diagnostic accuracy of pigmented and non-pigmented skin lesions. Pattern analysis is the most powerful of current methods for dermatoscopic diagnosis, but it does present significant challenges to the learning dermatoscopist.

We present here an algorithmic method, derived from pattern analysis, based on logical analysis of simply defined geometric features. We consider this presents fewer barriers to the beginner, but retains sufficient power for the most experienced user. Most importantly, it provides a better framework for elevating experience beyond mere anecdote, allowing experience to lead to true expertise.

The success of the first edition took us by surprise. It has been translated into seven languages. The second edition is not merely a reprint of the first. All chapters have been updated and new material added, incorporating suggestions of readers and correcting the (inevitable!) mistakes that were brought to our attention. Some chapters have been completely rewritten. We thank Jean-Yves Gourhant, Pedro Zaballos, Iris Zalaudek, Giuseppe Argenziano, Bengü Nisa Akay, and Bianca Carlos for providing us their images. We have worked hard on the 2nd edition and we hope that we exceeded your expectations.
