Therapeutic Nanomaterials, 1ed

Addressing a cutting-edge, multidisciplinary field, this book reviews nanomaterials and their biomedical applications. It covers regeneration, implants, adhesives, and biosensors and strategies for more efficient therapy, diagnosis, and drug delivery with the use of nanotechnology.

• Addresses the increasing demand for nanomedicine in a cutting-edge, multidisciplinary field
• Introduces concepts, strategies, and requirements of developing materials
• Discusses hot topics in drug delivery, such as neural regeneration, cartilage regeneration, bone tissue regeneration, dental regeneration, biomedical imaging, tissue adhesives and biosensors
• Includes a chapter about nanotoxicology to help readers further understand the biocompatability of nanomaterials

Nanomaterials have gained enormous interest for a wide range of applications, since their small size and scale allow them to behave and interact with fundamental chemical and biological processes differently than regular materials. By allowing active agents to be specifically delivered and efficiently absorbed, nanomaterials reduce side effects and have become an important aspect of bench to bedside medicine. As a result of advances in the analysis and manipulation of these materials, the field has seen a huge increase in attention from all directions of research – academia, industry, and government.

Therapeutic Nanomaterials meets the demands of this broad range of researchers, giving an introduction to fundamentals and advances with a focus on biomedical applications. The authors write from their perspective as leading researchers working with this class of nanomaterial to discuss provide information how to develop materials for medicine as well as the requirements for clinical use, covering novel strategies and methods for more efficient therapies using nanotechnology.
