Advances in Cancer Therapy

The book “Advances in Cancer Therapy” is a new addition to the Intech collection of books and aims at providing scientists and clinicians with a comprehensive overview of the state of current knowledge and latest research findings in the area of cancer therapy. For this purpose research articles, clinical investigations and review papers that are thought to improve the readers’ understanding of cancer therapy developments and/or to keep them up to date with the most recent advances in this field have been included in this book. With cancer being one of the most serious diseases of our times, I am confident that this book will meet the patients’, physicians’ and researchers’ needs.

Hala Gali-Muhtasib obtained her PhD in Biology in 1990 after which she was awarded a postdoctoral research fellowship in the Anticancer Drug Laboratory in Manhattan, KS. In 1993 she accepted a research associate position at the Department of Physiology and Biophyscis, Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, Cleveland, OH. She then joined AUB in 1994 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to full Professor in 2004. H. Gali-Muhtasib has published more than 65 manuscripts in peer-reviewed international journals and 11 book chapters. Her research interests are in the field of cancer chemoprevention and chemotherapy, particularly in what relates to the study of plant-derived compounds, hypoxic cytotoxic agents, anti-angiogenic drugs and radiation modifier compounds in an attempt to study the interplay between tumor hypoxia, radiosensitization and angiogenesis. Her efforts have been directed towards understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms of action of various anticancer agents using cellular biology techniques as well as an emerging array of molecular technologies.She has been honored with three research achievement awards; the Suad al-Sabbah prize in 2003, the Abdul Hameed Shoman prize for Young Arab Researchers in 2004 and the ISESCO prize in Biology in 2008
