Regenerative engineering, with its ability to foster novel therapeutic techniques and strategies, has emerged as the most versatile and innovative technology of the 21st century. The past few years have seen a significant interest in the development of injectable hydrogels as a delivery system to realize the dream of regenerative engineering. The book will explain synthetic approaches towards developing injectable hydrogels, and the clinical implications and applications of injectable hydrogels for engineering various tissues.
Injectable Hydrogels for Regenerative Engineering is the first of its kind to bring together the fields of injectable hydrogels and regenerative engineering to give a perspective of the emerging therapeutic strategies for a wide audience.

The book is broadly divided into two sections: The first section (Chapters 1–۵) is meant to give a general introduction to the field of regenerative engineering and injectable hydrogels, as well as the various synthetic approaches to develop injectable hydrogels; meanwhile, the second section (Chapters 6–۱۰) emphasizes the various biomedical applications of injectable hydrogels toward tissue regeneration. Chapter 1 presents a broad overview of the area of regenerative engineering and the role of scaffolds, cells, and growth factors in supporting tissue regeneration. Chapter 2 reviews the various types of injectable hydrogels and their potential biomedical applications. Chapters 3–۵ present an in-depth discussion on physically crosslinked, chemically crosslinked, and enzymatically crosslinked injectable hydrogels, respectively. Chapter 6 vividly presents the use of injectable hydrogels as tissue adhesives. Chapter 7 presents a comprehensive account of intervertebral tissue regeneration and the potential of injectable hydrogels for this application. Chapter 8 summarizes the applications of injectable hydrogels for neural tissue regeneration. Chapter 9 discusses the applications of injectable hydrogels for articular cartilage tissue regeneration, and Chapter 10 presents the potential of injectable hydrogels for promoting cardiac tissue regeneration post-myocardial infarction.
